We’re looking for product-minded backend engineers to build the core systems behind Mintlify. You’ll tackle hard problems across content processing, AI retrieval, and infrastructure that powers thousands of documentation sites. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll build the APIs, content pipelines, and AI infrastructure that power Mintlify’s products. You’ll collaborate across design and engineering, contribute to product and technical decisions, and take features from development through launch. What you'll work on here Building backend systems end to end: Designing, implementing, and ship the APIs and services behind our editor, dashboard, and customer documentation sites Scaling our content infrastructure: Improve how we ingest, validate, transform, and publish content from thousands of customer repositories Powering AI experiences: Building the search, retrieval, and agent infrastructure behind our AI products Performance and reliability: Improving caching, queues, databases, and observability as our products and customer base grow Shaping product direction and engineering approaches across the stack What you bring to the table 4+ years of software development experience You have strong experience with systems design, API architecture, databases, and production systems You have strong product intuition and care about the “why” as much as the “how” when building software You are adaptable and willing to work beyond the backend when needed to ship a feature. We’re looking for product-minded engineers to build the AI experiences behind Mintlify. You’ll combine strong full-stack engineering with applied AI expertise to create agents that reliably solve real customer problems. As a Senior Applied AI Engineer, you’ll take ownership of complex AI products from early experimentation through production. You’ll help define technical direction, establish how we evaluate and improve agent performance, and raise the quality of both our AI products and engineering practices. What you'll work on here Leading AI products end to end: Architecting and shipping customer-facing AI experiences, from agent orchestration and tool use to the interfaces and backend systems that support them Building reliable agent systems: Developing agent loops that reason over complex context, call tools, recover from failures, and complete long-running tasks Driving evaluation and iteration: Defining evals, build feedback loops, analyze failures, and systematically hill-climb on prompts, context, models, tools, and product flows Turning prototypes into products: Making thoughtful decisions about architecture, latency, cost, observability, and user experience to operate AI systems reliably at scale Shaping product direction and engineering approaches across the stack What you bring to the table You have at least 4 years of professional software development experience You possess deep experience building production systems with language models, including agent loops, tool use, retrieval, prompting, and structured outputs You are comfortable owning production software across frontend, backend, APIs, databases, and infrastructure You have led complex projects from experimentation through production and thrive when defining solutions rather than following a spec You have strong product intuition and care about the “why” as much as the “how” when building user-facing software You’re eager to talk directly with customers and use those insights to shape what we build You have experience mentoring other engineers, sharing technical knowledge, and helping teammates grow Why you should join our engineering team You’ll solve technically ambitious product problems alongside a team that values craft, speed, and thoughtful execution.
