Unless a specific job description explicitly states otherwise, all roles are on-site five days per week at one of our offices in McLean, VA; Mountain View, CA; New York City, NY; or Tampa, FL. Certain roles — such as field-based sales or other remote-by-design positions — may have different work arrangements as noted in their individual postings. At ID.me, we embrace the thoughtful use of AI tools in our daily work and there are even occasions where we leverage AI in our hiring process. However, during the interview process, we want to understand your individual skills and experiences. Therefore, we have guidelines on how AI can be appropriately used during your application and interviews which can be found here . Location: Mountain View, CA (Onsite 5 days per week) Role Overview ID.me is seeking a Software Engineer II to join the Developer Portal team, where we're building the self-service platform that enables organizations to rapidly integrate ID.me. Identity proofing is fundamentally complex. Integrating an identity proofing flow requires many steps while meeting standards-body assurance requirements. The Developer Portal is the product that brings those pieces together for the external developer. Today, much of that onboarding is still performed manually by in-house Solutions Consultants who have many other responsibilities. Our mission is to enable customers and their developers to register their application, configure their identity needs, test in a production-like sandbox, and launch to production, all through a modern self-service experience. This is an early-career role for engineers who are 0 to 2 years into their career and write excellent code. You don't need years of industry experience. You need strong fundamentals, a track record of building real things, and an AI-native way of working: you already use AI coding tools as a core part of how you design, build, test, and debug, and you have the judgment to know when their output is right and when it isn't. This is a backend-leaning full-stack role . You'll work on the services, APIs, and data models behind the portal (application registration, authorization, and the developer-facing APIs our customers integrate against), and you'll ship the user-facing surfaces those services power in our Next.js and React frontend. You'll start with well-scoped features alongside senior engineers and grow quickly into owning features end-to-end, from API contract to production. Our backend services are primarily Java (Spring Boot) alongside legacy Ruby services. The frontend is a micro-frontend platform built with Next.js , React , and TypeScript . You don't need to know all of these on day one. If your fundamentals are strong, we're confident you'll pick up whatever the problem requires. What You'll Do Build and Ship Developer Features Design, implement, test, and deploy Developer Portal capabilities across the stack: backend APIs, database changes, and the frontend experiences customers use. Start with well-defined features and bugs, then take on progressively larger and more ambiguous work as you grow. Write High-Quality, Well-Tested Code Write clean, readable, maintainable code with strong test coverage. Participate actively in code review, both getting feedback and giving thoughtful feedback to teammates, including senior engineers. Build AI-First Use AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) every day to move faster on implementation, testing, debugging, and understanding unfamiliar code. Help the team find better ways to use these tools, and hold AI-generated code to the same bar as code you wrote by hand. Learn the Identity Stack Build hands-on depth in authentication and authorization, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, enterprise SSO, multi-tenant access control, and credential management, working with our Wallet, Organizations, and Platform Engineering teams. Operate What You Ship Help keep the systems our team owns healthy in production: monitoring, alerting, debugging live issues, and participating in on-call once you're ramped up. Collaborate and Grow Work closely with Product, Design, and engineers across teams. Learn to break down problems, write short technical designs, and communicate clearly about tradeoffs and progress. You'll have a dedicated mentor and a clear path toward end-to-end feature ownership. Required Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 0 to 2 years of professional software engineering experience. Excellent coding skills and strong computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, complexity, and debugging. Fluency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Java, TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, Go, Kotlin, C#, Ruby). Evidence that you build real software: internships, substantial class or team projects, open-source contributions, hackathons, or side projects that other people use. AI-native development workflow : daily, hands-on use of AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) to build and ship software, paired with the ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability, and to explain every line you submit. Experience building with LLMs or agentic workflows (e.g., using the Claude or OpenAI APIs, MCP, or agent frameworks) in projects or coursework. Understanding of how web applications work, including HTTP, REST APIs, and relational databases/SQL. Ability to learn unfamiliar systems quickly through independent research and by working with mentors and subject-matter experts. Clear written and verbal communication. You can explain what you built, why, and what tradeoffs you made. Preferred Qualifications Internship experience building backend services or full-stack web applications. Experience with Java and Spring Boot, or another backend framework (Rails, Node.js/Express, Django, Go). Experience with React, TypeScript, or Next.js. Experience with PostgreSQL or another relational database, including schema design. Exposure to authentication and authorization concepts such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWTs, SSO, or access control models. Experience building developer tools, APIs, SDKs, or documentation that other developers use. Experience writing automated tests (unit, integration, or end-to-end with tools like Jest, JUnit, or Playwright). Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure), containers, or CI/CD pipelines. Interest in security, identity, fraud prevention, or regulated systems. What Success Looks Like First 30 days: Your dev environment is set up, you've shipped your first production change, and you understand how the Developer Portal fits into ID.me's identity platform. First 90 days: You're independently delivering well-scoped features across backend and frontend, contributing meaningfully to code reviews, and using AI tooling to raise both your speed and your quality bar. First year: You own a meaningful Developer Portal capability end-to-end, from API contract and data model through production operation, and you're a go-to person for at least one part of the system. You're Encouraged to Apply We're not looking for someone who checks every box. If you write great code, learn fast, and are excited about building the tools that let developers integrate trusted identity, we want to hear from you, even if your background doesn't match this description exactly. Therefore, we have guidelines on how AI can be appropriately used during your application and interviews which can be found here . Engagement Type: Full-Time Location: Mountain View, CA (Onsite 5 days per week) Role Overview ID.me is seeking a Software Development Engineer II to join the Life Hub team, building the SuperApp's life-events experience — the surface that helps members discover and access the government, healthcare, and commercial benefits they are eligible for based on major life moments (turning 65, leaving the military, becoming disabled, and similar events). This role is full stack: you will help build the data model and application logic that connects a member's self-asserted and verified attributes to eligible life events, use cases, and application resources, working across both backend services (Java, REST APIs) and the React/Next.js experiences members interact with. You will work closely with the team's senior engineers, Product, and Design to turn eligibility rules and use-case definitions into working software, starting with the team's Medicare pilot and expanding into additional life events such as retirement and disability. This position will work from our Mountain View, CA office five days per week. Key Responsibilities Build Life Hub Eligibility Logic: Build and maintain application logic that turns eligibility attributes (self-asserted, or read from the Persons and Profiles APIs) into ranked, eligible life events and use cases for a member. Implement Use-Case & Eligibility Models: Implement use-case and eligibility JSON models, in partnership with senior engineers and the Developer Portal team, that map application resources, use cases, and eligibility conditions for pilot programs such as Medicare. Support Discovery & Access Flows: Contribute to discovery and access flows, ensuring discovery remains lenient (showing ineligible life events, sorted appropriately) while access enforcement remains a hard gate tied to resource-level policy. Integrate with Platform APIs: Integrate with Persons, Profiles, and Developer Portal control-plane APIs for eligibility and access data rather than hardcoding business logic client-side. Build Member-Facing UI: Build and maintain React/Next.js web experiences for Life Hub, turning discovery and eligibility concepts into working, member-centered UI. Track Attribute Gaps: Support tracking and documentation of attribute gaps (e.g., residency, disability status, entitlement data) in partnership with the Profile and Persons API teams. Collaborate with Design and Product: Work closely with Design and Product, and ask insightful questions during planning and refinement, to help shape Life Hub's ontology and roadmap. Performance, Accessibility & Reliability: Ensure shipped features meet ID.me's standards for performance, accessibility, and cross-browser reliability. Production Support: Provide production support and maintenance for shipped features, including triaging and resolving incidents and bugs. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 0–2 years of professional software engineering experience (or equivalent internship/academic project experience). Working proficiency in at least one modern backend language (Java preferred) and comfort with REST APIs. Working experience with a modern frontend framework (React and/or Next.js). Solid fundamentals in data structures, debugging, and automated testing. Comfortable working on well-defined tickets with pair programming and consultation from more senior engineers. Clear written and verbal communication — this role requires close collaboration with Product, Design, and adjacent platform teams (Developer Portal, Persons/Profile API). AI-native engineering practices — comfortable using AI tooling (e.g., code generation, test coverage, documentation) to accelerate development. We'd Love to See Exposure to eligibility, entitlements, or identity/benefits-adjacent domains. Experience with JSON-based data modeling or rules/policy engines. Familiarity with ID.me's Wallet, OAuth/OIDC concepts, or the Nova/Fragno design system. Prior full-stack project experience spanning a UI, an API layer, and a database. Familiarity with accessibility standards and cross-browser behavior. The annual base salary listed does not include a company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity and benefits which will be determined based on experience, skills, education, relevant training, geographic location and role. Role Overview ID.me is seeking a Senior Fullstack Software Development Engineer to join the Person team. You'll design and build the systems that define who a person is on ID.me — the canonical record of their identity, the APIs that serve it, and the unified experience where members see and manage it. As a Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in architecting and scaling the Person platform to ensure it is secure, consistent, and performant across ID.me's ecosystem. You'll partner with design to build the Person experience, and own the Backend for Frontend APIs and services that serve as the source of truth for personal data — working across teams to deliver systems that keep a person's identity accurate and consistent for millions of members and the partners who rely on them. This position will be based full-time in either our McLean, VA or Mountain View, CA office. Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership: Own the design and implementation of significant areas of the Person platform — the canonical record of a person's identity and the rules governing how it is created, merged, and split. Author and implement UX architecture for the areas you own, contribute to design reviews across the team, and stay hands-on through implementation. Cross-Team Influence: Work closely with teams across ID.me to understand how person data is consumed and embedded in their systems to solve real needs. Represent your areas in architectural forums and cross-team planning. Systems Design & Architecture: Design and Implement end-to-end of complex, high-impact features across the full stack — from the person data model and services, through Backend for Frontend, APIs, to the unified person experience members interact with. Engineering Excellence: Set the standard for code quality, testing, observability, and incident response. Drive technical debt reduction and platform reliability improvements. Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, design critiques, and pairing. AI-Augmented Development: Model and champion AI-first engineering practices — leveraging tools like Claude Code to accelerate design, implementation, and review cycles — and help the broader team adopt these workflows effectively. Required Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 7+ years of professional experience developing across the full stack in production environments. 7+ years of experience in at least one backend language (Python, Go, or Java) and with modern frameworks. 7+ years of professional experience developing frontend applications (Angular, React etc) in production environments. Preferred Qualifications Experience building user-facing web applications in a modern frontend stack (TypeScript, React) and the Backend for Frontend APIs behind them. Experience with identity resolution or entity matching — deduplication, record merge and split, or data normalization at scale. Demonstrated expertise building, documenting, and evolving public-facing REST or GraphQL APIs used by multiple internal and external consumers. Deep experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and graph or NoSQL data stores. Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts — caching, asynchronous processing, event-driven architectures (Kafka, SNS/SQS), and cloud-native patterns. Experience handling sensitive personal data under privacy and security constraints: encryption, access control, auditability, retention and deletion. Experience in regulated or high-assurance domains (government, financial, or healthcare systems). The annual base salary listed does not include a company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity and benefits which will be determined based on experience, skills, education, relevant training, geographic location and role. ID.me offers comprehensive medical, dental, vision, health savings account, flexible spending accounts (medical, limited purpose, dependent care, commuter benefit accounts), basic and voluntary life and AD&D insurance, 401(k) with company match, parental leave, ability to participate in unlimited paid time off subject to the terms and conditions of the PTO policy, including 8 company wide holidays, short and long-term disability insurance, accident and critical illness insurance, referral bonus policy, employee assistance program, pet insurance, travel assistant program, wellbeing and childcare discounts, benefit advocates, and a learning and development benefit. Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on qualifications, professional experiences, skills, education, relevant training, geographic location, and other job related factors.
