The Opportunity As a Staff Software Engineer on Hinge Health’s Service Enablement team , you will build the platforms, services, and engineering practices that other teams at Hinge Health rely on to ship software safely and quickly. Service Enablement treats Hinge Health engineers as its customers. The team builds paved roads, automation, and platform capabilities in developer experience, cloud and service platforms, reliability, observability, security, CI/CD, and AI/ML enablement. The goal is to remove friction, improve operational maturity, and make the default path the easiest one for product and infrastructure teams. This is a hands-on Staff Engineer role. You will write production code, lead architecture and design reviews, participate in operational response, and coach engineers toward stronger technical ownership. Expect to turn broad engineering needs into technical strategy, lead initiatives that span several teams, and set standards that get adopted beyond your own pod. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the team building that experience: the incentive mechanics, referral flows, and personalization that turn existing members into the reason new members join. Member-to-member referrals have grown 2x in the past year and are on track to drive $100M in ARR this year, the team is overhauling the tech stack and investing heavily in ML to take it further. This role centers on scaling member-to-member referral growth: improving the incentive mechanics, referral flows, and personalization that motivate existing members to bring in more members. This is a backend-heavy, full-stack role (~70% backend / 30% frontend) with a direct line to business outcomes like referral conversion and cost-per-acquisition — on a small, high-leverage team where your work isn't buried in a large team's backlog. What You’ll Accomplish Deliver large projects that introduce new product capabilities, often acting as a maintainer for key code repositories. Modernize existing pipelines to scale our proven products with company growth. Break down complex problems into manageable tasks, ensuring steady and predictable delivery while identifying and resolving root causes of incidents. Collaborate with your team to roadmap and execute ambitious technical strategies, balancing short-term and long-term trade-offs. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field 3+ years of non-internship full time professional software development experience Experience delivering large software projects or features in a production environment Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript, etc.) Backend-heavy, full-stack ownership — strong ownership of backend APIs and services (~70% of the role), plus the ability to work confidently in the frontend surfaces (React / React Native) members interact with in referral flows (~30% of the role). Ability to own projects end-to-end, make sound technical tradeoffs, and execute with minimal direction. You don't need to set org-wide technical direction, but you should be someone the team trusts to get the hard, ambiguous parts of a project right.
