The purpose of the Data Engineer is to implement and maintain data infrastructure that facilitates data-driven decision making, innovation and operational efficiency while ensuring that the data pipeline is secure, reliable, and scalable. The role holder will build and maintain high-performance data systems that are foundational to driving business growth and success. The key responsibilities will include: Designing and implementing scalable data architectures and systems Developing and maintaining ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines. Managing data storage, backup, and recovery mechanisms Writing SQL queries to extract data for analysis. Developing and implementing data security and privacy Interfacing with clients and end users to receive guidance on projects and deliverables. Essential: Proficient in writing clean, efficient, and maintainable SQL and Python code, particularly for data transformation and analytics use cases Understanding of data modelling concepts and be able to design data models that are optimised for different user cases. Familiarity with SQL and experience (2+ year) working with and designing relational databases. Experience (1+ year) implementing data pipelines that run on Kafka or equivalent distributed event store and stream processing platforms. Ability to debug and optimize failing or slow data pipelines and queries. Systems integration experience (1+ years): networking, data migrations, API integration and design. Enthusiasm for clean systems, including documentation, logging, and reproducibility. Experience (2+ year) working with AWS S3, Athena, ECS, Cloud Formation, Lambdas & Cloudwatch. Excellent presentation, documentation, time management, communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively and autonomously. Strong problem-solving skills with a pragmatic and analytical outlook. Desirable: Familiar with analytics tools such as Power BI, Apache Superset, or similar for building interactive and impactful visualizations Familiarity with distributed systems (e.g., Spark, Kafka) and how they support scalable analytics solutions Passion for TDD A love of sports Able to troubleshoot complex problems that arise during the Data Engineering process and be able to find effective solutions. Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and be able to work effectively with cross functional teams. As an SDE III, you'll bring your engineering depth into a new way of working. You won't just write code — you'll specify, orchestrate, validate, and ship with AI as your primary collaborator. You'll work in a small, mission-driven cross-functional team called a pod — three functions (Product, Engineer, Quality) with high agency, shared ownership, and no hand-offs. Reporting to the Tech Lead, you'll join the Product & Technology Team. Are you ready to be part of a team that's redefining how software gets built in an AI Native setup? What You Will Do Deliver against the pod's mission — own the full software delivery lifecycle including quality, from design through production and measurement. Operate in continuous flow (Kanban) — pull work, respect WIP limits, ship daily. Use AI agents as your primary delivery mechanism — code generation, testing, spec writing, deployment. Design, build, and debug software across backend and frontend with distributed systems awareness. Evaluate and tune agent workflows — steering docs, prompts, rules, skills. You improve the tools you use. Write clean, well-tested code and take ownership of quality end-to-end. Act as the initial on-call responder, ensuring health and stability of deployed applications. Mentor junior developers and contribute to shared tooling, knowledge bases, and the agent foundation kit. Strong proficiency in at least one of the following: Java/Spring Boot, Python, .NET, Go, or Angular, with the ability to learn and work with other technologies using AI. Strong foundation in engineering fundamentals, including distributed systems, data structures, API design, database concepts, and cloud computing. Experience with clean code practices, TDD, CI/CD, and version control. Experience with application monitoring, observability, and production debugging. Familiarity with Docker/Kubernetes, microservices, and event-driven architectures. Proficiency in using AI-assisted development tools for code generation, pair programming, and automated testing. Experience with agent systems, MCP/tool protocols, or building AI-augmented workflows. Experience designing evaluation and observability strategies for AI-generated outputs. Nice to Have Contributions to shared tooling, internal platforms, or open-source projects. Background in industries with strict regulatory requirements, such as gaming, financial services, or healthcare.
