Come do work that matters. As a Software Engineer at Blend, you will design, implement, and maintain the platform that powers 20% of mortgages in the US. You'll work closely with our product development team to translate customer needs into functional, scalable software — and you'll do it the modern way: with AI coding agents woven into every stage of your development lifecycle. We're an engineering organization that builds AI-first. How you'll contribute: Build features end-to-end across the stack — from responsive, accessible user interfaces to resilient, scalable back-end services. Use AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex daily across the software development lifecycle: planning, design, codebase analysis, implementation, testing, documentation, code review, and refactoring. Apply and help evolve our AI-driven development lifecycle (AIDLC) practices — spec-driven development, agentic workflows, and effective context and prompt engineering — and share what you learn with the team. Review, test, and harden AI-generated code to production quality. You own everything you ship, no matter who (or what) wrote the first draft. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications and code. Work with product managers and UI/UX designers to implement new features and enhancements with a seamless, accessible user experience across devices. Design and develop applications that scale, with maintenance, resiliency, and robustness in mind. Identify and troubleshoot software defects and issues, ensuring timely resolution. Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality — including thoughtful review of AI-assisted contributions — and offer peer mentorship and guidance. Participate in the team's on-call rotation. Who you are: You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience) with 2-5 years of experience building production software. You use AI to write code every day. Tools like Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex aren't experiments for you — they're core to how you work, and you stay current as they evolve. You're proficient in the latest AIDLC techniques: decomposing problems into well-scoped tasks an agent can execute, writing effective specs and prompts, managing context, and critically evaluating AI output for correctness, security, and maintainability. You're a full-stack developer: comfortable in back-end development with languages such as Node.js, TypeScript, or Golang, and in front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks like React. You have experience working with databases like Postgres, MongoDB, or similar technologies. You're hungry to learn. You have high learning velocity, you're curious about new tools and techniques, and you treat a fast-changing toolchain as an opportunity rather than a burden. You're an excellent communicator who can operate independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, driving projects to a successful outcome. Compensation: Base Salary Range: $129,000 – $152,000 (This applies to full time hires. Come do work that matters. Software Engineer — Platform Foundations We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build and evolve the foundational systems that power our products. This role focuses on backend platform engineering, authentication and authorization, developer infrastructure, and secure AI-assisted automation. You will work on high-impact systems used across the organization: identity, access control, APIs, asynchronous workflows, shared services, and background agents that help internal teams investigate and resolve operational issues. What you'll do Design, build, and operate reliable backend services and shared platform capabilities. Lead technical design for APIs, distributed systems, data storage, workflow orchestration, and service integrations. Build secure authentication and authorization systems for users, partners, services, and API clients. Develop and maintain login flows including SSO, OAuth/OIDC, MFA, session management, token lifecycle, and role- or scope-based access control. Improve platform security through strong access controls, auditability, secrets management, tenant isolation, and secure service-to-service communication. Build background-agent systems that automate support and operational workflows while maintaining clear safety controls and human oversight. Develop integrations with collaboration, ticketing, source-control, and internal operational tools. Create safe AI-agent execution patterns, including isolated runtimes, scoped permissions, tool allowlists, approval workflows, and output-safety checks. Improve reliability and operability through monitoring, tracing, incident response, testing, and performance engineering. Partner with product, security, infrastructure, and support teams to turn complex requirements into scalable platform capabilities. Mentor engineers, contribute to technical standards, and lead design discussions across teams. Lead complex projects, make strong architectural decisions, and improve the systems around them. Set technical direction for broader areas, align teams around platform investments, and create leverage through mentorship, standards, and architecture. Technical environment Our work includes: Go, TypeScript, and Node.js RESTful APIs and distributed services PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and event-driven systems Workflow orchestration and asynchronous job processing Docker, Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, JWTs, MFA, RBAC, API scopes, and service authentication Observability tooling, including metrics, logs, tracing, and alerting AI-agent frameworks, tool calling, secure execution environments, evaluations, and human-in-the-loop workflows What we're looking for 6+ years of professional software engineering experience. Strong backend engineering experience in Go, TypeScript/Node.js, Java, Python, or a similar language. Experience designing and operating production distributed systems, APIs, databases, and asynchronous workflows. Strong understanding of authentication, authorization, sessions, tokens, identity protocols, and secure API design. Experience building secure, reliable systems that handle sensitive data and enforce access controls. Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and production observability. Strong system-design skills and the ability to make sound technical tradeoffs. Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence across teams. A practical ownership mindset: comfortable debugging production issues and improving systems end to end. Nice to have Experience with AI agents, LLM tool use, automation platforms, or human-in-the-loop systems. Experience designing secure agent runtimes, sandboxing, permission models, or safety controls. Experience with enterprise identity integrations and SSO. Experience with workflow engines, event-driven architectures, or platform engineering. Experience in fintech, security, healthcare, or another regulated industry.
