About the Role As a member of the flight Software team, you will design, develop, and own the software driving the autonomous operation of Apex’s satellite buses. You will be responsible for developing mission critical systems that operate reliably 24/7, ensuring that Apex’s spacecraft continue to operate in all scenarios. Perform unit testing, integration testing, and system-level testing of software components, identifying and resolving any defects or issues. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to baseline product requirements and technical roadmaps. Requirements: U.S. Person status is required as this position needs to access export controlled data. 1+ years of total flight software experience Bachelor’s degree in CS, EE or equivalent. Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, Rust. Experience with real time systems running on distributed hardware. About the Role The Cybersecurity Engineer(Enterprise Security Architect) is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure enterprise architectures, systems, applications, networks, and cloud environments. About the Role We are seeking a Cloud Security Engineer to design, implement, maintain, and optimize secure cloud environments supporting U.S. government, DoD, and intelligence community missions. This role plays a critical part in protecting classified and sensitive data in AWS, Azure, and hybrid/multi-cloud infrastructures while ensuring full compliance with federal standards such as NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, RMF, and DoD Impact Levels (IL-4/IL-5). The right candidate will bring hands-on experience securing cloud platforms in regulated environments. This role will help the organization meet industry standards such as SOC2, ISO 27001, PCI-DSS, GDPR/CCPA, or other relevant compliance frameworks. Responsibilities: Design and implement secure cloud architectures and configurations across AWS GovCloud, Azure, and/or Google Cloud, applying best practices for least privilege encryption, network segmentation, and data protection. Implement and maintain cloud security frameworks, ensuring ongoing compliance with NIST 800-53 Rev. 5, FedRAMP, DoD IL-2/4/5, RMF, and Secure Cloud Computing Architecture (SCCA) requirements. Configure and manage Identity and Access Management (IAM), Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Just-In-Time (JIT) access, Key Vaults, and Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) principles across cloud environments. Engineer, deploy, and optimize cloud-native security tools, including Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Azure Sentinel, AWS GovCloud security services, CSPM/CWPP solutions, and SIEM (Elastic) platforms for threat detection, monitoring, and response. Conduct vulnerability assessments, penetration testing simulations, security configuration reviews (against STIGs, CIS benchmarks, and NIST controls), and continuous monitoring of cloud resources. Develop, maintain, and update System Security Plans (SSP), Security Assessment Reports (SAR), Plans of Action & Milestones (POA&M), and risk/compliance reporting for cloud-based operations. Identify, analyze, and respond to Indicators of Compromise (IoCs), threat intelligence, and security incidents within cloud environments; perform root-cause analysis and implement preventive controls. Perform periodic security reviews and audits of cloud environments (Azure, AWS, hybrid) to ensure sustained compliance, mitigate evolving threats, and update policies/procedures. Collaborate with DevSecOps, infrastructure, and development teams to integrate security into CI/CD pipelines, automate security controls, and support secure cloud migrations or modernization initiatives. Assess current cloud architectures, propose security improvements, review designs through a security lens, and serve as a subject-matter expert on cloud security tools, processes, and best practices. Coordinate with configuration management teams to ensure hardware/software changes adhere to security protocols, maintain version control, and support documentation of the cyber terrain. Develop, enforce, and maintain cloud security policies, standards, and automated guardrails to support secure CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) practices (e.g., using Terraform, CloudFormation). Monitor cloud environments for security incidents, investigate alerts, perform root-cause analysis, and coordinate incident response activities. Identify emerging threats and recommend proactive improvements to cloud security posture, including automation of security controls and processes. About the Role We are seeking a Cloud Security Engineer, AWS GovCloud to design, implement, maintain, and optimize secure cloud environments supporting U.S. government, DoD, and intelligence community missions. This role plays a critical part in protecting classified and sensitive data in AWS, Azure, and hybrid/multi-cloud infrastructures while ensuring full compliance with federal standards such as NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, RMF, and DoD Impact Levels (IL-4/IL-5). The right candidate will bring hands-on experience securing cloud platforms in regulated environments. Configure and manage Identity and Access Management (IAM), Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Just-In-Time (JIT) access, Key Vaults, and Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) principles across cloud environments. Engineer, deploy, and optimize cloud-native security tools, including Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Azure Sentinel, AWS GovCloud security services, CSPM/CWPP solutions, and SIEM (Elastic) platforms for threat detection, monitoring, and response. Conduct vulnerability assessments, penetration testing simulations, security configuration reviews (against STIGs, CIS benchmarks, and NIST controls), and continuous monitoring of cloud resources. Develop, maintain, and update System Security Plans (SSP), Security Assessment Reports (SAR), Plans of Action & Milestones (POA&M), and risk/compliance reporting for cloud-based operations. Identify, analyze, and respond to Indicators of Compromise (IoCs), threat intelligence, and security incidents within cloud environments; perform root-cause analysis and implement preventive controls. Perform periodic security reviews and audits of cloud environments (Azure, AWS, hybrid) to ensure sustained compliance, mitigate evolving threats, and update policies/procedures. Collaborate with DevSecOps, infrastructure, and development teams to integrate security into CI/CD pipelines, automate security controls, and support secure cloud migrations or modernization initiatives. Assess current cloud architectures, propose security improvements, review designs through a security lens, and serve as a subject-matter expert on cloud security tools, processes, and best practices. Coordinate with configuration management teams to ensure hardware/software changes adhere to security protocols, maintain version control, and support documentation of the cyber terrain. Develop, enforce, and maintain cloud security policies, standards, and automated guardrails to support secure CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) practices (e.g., using Terraform, CloudFormation). Monitor cloud environments for security incidents, investigate alerts, perform root-cause analysis, and coordinate incident response activities. Identify emerging threats and recommend proactive improvements to cloud security posture, including automation of security controls and processes. Provide guidance and training to engineering teams on secure cloud design patterns and best practices. Ability to be on-site 5 days a week at our office in Playa Vista, CA. Requirements: Must be a U.S. citizen. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Assurance, Computer Science, or a related field (or 5+ years equivalent professional experience in cloud security engineering) Experience: 5–9+ years in cloud security engineering, with hands-on work in AWS GovCloud, Azure, Google GCP, or multi-cloud environments. About the Role In this position, you will own or contribute to the authorization posture of two systems: a space vehicle and a classified cloud mission operations environment. You will contribute to cyber engineering and produce RMF authorization documentation, build and sustain authorization packages, own the plan of action and milestones day to day, and run continuous monitoring. This is mission systems work throughout, not traditional enterprise IT security. We are open to candidates from ISSE, SSE, ISSM, or ISSO backgrounds, and are hiring across levels: from new and recent graduates through senior engineering, officer, and manager experience. Responsibilities: May include any or all of the following: Authorization Ownership Build and sustain authorization packages for both boundaries: system description, boundary definition, categorization, control selection and tailoring rationale, implementation statements, assessment coordination, and the residual risk picture carried to the AO. Get assessors engaged early on our evidence-generation approach so generated artifacts are trusted before a package depends on them. Own the POA&M. Maintain the authorization system of record (eMASS or equivalent). Space Vehicle Segment Own the authorization boundary determination for the flight segment and the rationale that survives assessor scrutiny. Categorize under CNSSI 1253 and defend overlay selection, treating the Space Platform Overlay as the starting place it is rather than a finished answer — pushing back where our onboard security capability exceeds what the published tailoring assumes. Tailor the control baseline with per-control rationale, using Aerospace's Space Segment Cybersecurity Profile (TOR-2023-02161 Rev A) and SPARTA-linked tailoring, including arguing controls back in where our onboard capability exceeds what those baselines assumed. Define the type-authorization for the bus and design how each vehicle off the line generates its own conformance evidence so fleet growth does not mean linear growth in assessment labor. Derive verifiable security requirements from threat using SPARTA TTPs as the traceability key, owned by the software and mission integration engineers who will build and test against them. Translate verification and production artifacts into assessment evidence and tell engineering early when what they produce will not satisfy an assessor. Own the continuous monitoring story for a fielded fleet: security audit downlinked across contact windows, configuration drift across vehicles, and on-orbit software update as a recurring authorization event. Classified Cloud Mission Operations Environment Define and document the authorization boundary for mission systems in classified cloud (AWS, Azure classified regions, or equivalent), including impact-level scoping and the seam with ground stations and the RF edge. Own the control and evidence story for operator command authority: identity, role separation, least privilege, two-person integrity, non-repudiation, and complete audit of every command that reaches the vehicle. Build and defend the control inheritance model and prove the customer-responsible set with live evidence rather than assertion, validating what the cloud service provider and the platform satisfy versus what remains customer responsibility for the mission-unique applications. Implement controls as code, so infrastructure-as-code, policy-as-code, and pipeline configuration serve as the implementation and the evidence at once. Make change control and continuous monitoring work at operations tempo, never putting a contact window at risk, positioned for the DoD transition toward the Cybersecurity Risk Management Construct (CSRMC) and continuous authorization. Manage security incident reporting and coordination for the boundary. Automation and Generation Define what evidence you need and in what form. Design the OSCAL-based evidence data model and the mapping layer that resolves a property assertion to control identifiers across 800-53, CNSSI 1253 baselines, overlays, and program-unique control sets. Build the pipeline that renders SSP sections, assessment evidence, POA&M items, and continuous monitoring reports deterministically from pinned evidence snapshots. Integrate with the authorization system of record (eMASS or equivalent) programmatically, so generated artifacts land where assessors actually look. Use AI-assisted drafting and crosswalk tooling for control narratives, framework mappings, and monitoring summaries, with human review on anything an AO reads and full traceability from every statement to a source record. Push toward controls whose satisfaction is demonstrated by system state rather than by narrative. For the first time in history, this influx of payload companies combined with reduced launch costs has resulted in a massive increase in need for commercial spacecraft platforms, known as satellite buses. These buses hold the payloads of our customers and are flown on launch vehicles. We’d love for you to join us on our mission of providing humankind access to the galaxy beyond our planet. About the Role We are seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to join our Ground Software team. As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will design, build, and operate the ground and site network infrastructure that connects Apex facilities and mission operations across both commercial and secured environments. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who is equally comfortable architecting a highly available Kubernetes platform, and defining the security posture that keeps it all compliant. You will be a primary technical owner , setting the standards that the rest of the team builds on. Responsibilities: Architect and build ground and site network infrastructure spanning commercial and secured or classified environments through the platform layer. Design, deploy, and scale highly available Kubernetes clusters that support workloads across multiple security and classification levels. Own the security posture of ground infrastructure, defining and enforcing controls, hardening, and compliance for sensitive government and commercial programs. Build and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform, Terragrunt, and similar tooling so that environments are repeatable, reviewable, and fast to stand up. Establish observability across the ground network, including monitoring, metrics, logging, and alerting, so issues are caught before they reach a mission. Design and run CI/CD pipelines and automation that streamline deployments and reduce manual, error-prone work. Act as a primary site reliability engineer for ground systems, driving uptime, incident response, and reliability standards on programs where downtime is not an option. Partner with security, mission operations, and program teams to translate requirements into infrastructure that is both compliant and operable. Set architectural standards and mentor other engineers, raising the bar for how ground infrastructure is built at Apex. Requirements: Applicants must be U.S. persons as defined by U.S. export-control law. 5+ years of experience in site reliability, infrastructure, or network engineering, with a meaningful portion in aerospace, defense, satellite, or another mission-critical domain. Hands-on experience architecting and operating ground network or large-scale production network infrastructure. Deep expertise with Kubernetes and containers, including building and scaling high availability clusters in production. Strong networking fundamentals across routing, switching, segmentation, and secure network design. Proven experience with infrastructure as code with CI/CD, automation, and observability tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, or similar. Working knowledge of security and compliance for regulated or classified environments, and the judgment to design a defensible security posture. Proficiency scripting and building tooling in Python, Go, or a comparable language. Nice-to-Haves Active Top Secret or Top Secret/SCI clearance Prior experience supporting classified or government space programs or standing up infrastructure across multiple classification levels. Familiarity with GitOps workflows and tools such as ArgoCD, and with modern observability stacks including Mimir. #LI-AB1 Why Join Apex?
